October Update
by Yuveganlife, October 6, 2024
Despite enduring a significant increase in wildfires, as of October 3, there are still 156 active wildfires in British Columbia, according to the BC Wildfire Service. It was reported that from April 1 to August 11, the province recorded 1,339 wildfires, which burned a total of 939,967 hectares.
The 2023 wildfire season was the worst on record in B.C., with 2.8 million hectares consumed by fires across the province, based on B.C. Wildfire Season Summary.
A recent study report, State of Wildfires 2023–2024, published on DOI.ORG, warns that by the end of the century, under a medium–high emission scenario (SSP370), wildfire events of a magnitude similar to those in 2023 are projected to occur 6.3 to 10.8 times more frequently in Canada.
Adopting a vegan lifestyle is the most effective way to mitigate the environmental crisis we face today.
